Solar Car Rally in NOTO


===== OUTLINE =====


Solar Car Rally in NOTO was held in Ishikawa Prefecture on August 1962 as the final event of Grand Solar Challenge. That was held at time when the solar car popularity had risen in Japan. The organizer announced that 150,000 spectators had watched the rally.

The suttle race was played on the road only for the car. The circuit race was played in the special course including sands. They were unique races. It seemed like the race that tested the practicality of solar cars.
After the event, in the Ishikawa Prefecture assembly it was discussed that how succeed the management of Grand Solar Challenge include the solar car rally. The second Solar Car Rally in NOTO was held on 1996. The rally used only sand road course. The traffic police in Japan did not permit the use of the public road. After that, the event has not been held.

The vehicles shuttled on the Noto Tollway after turn once round the special circuit course.
The length of the course is about 60km.

Circuit Race
The special circuit was composed of The Nagisa Drive Way (sands beach way) and Noto Tollways.
The length of the truck is about 11km.

Participates
50 vehicles for the circuit race.
52 vehicles for the shuttl race
8 vehicles participated from foreign countries. *1)*4)

Class
Body size of vehicles were conformed to WSC.
Category I limited :
The output power of the solar panel must be up to 800wp.
Lead acid battely to be used
Category I free I:
The area of the solar panel must be up to 8 square meters.
Any kind of battely usable, but less than 2 kwh.
Category I free II:
Two persons getting on car.
Category II:
Two persons getting on car.
Four-wheel car, no limitation.

===== Grand Solar Challenge =====


"Grand Solar Challenge Promotion Conference" (GSCPC) was established by the guidance of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in August, 1990. "Grand Solar Challenge" (GSC) was a large scale campaign to aim at the enlightenment of global environmental concerns and energy problems. The member of GSC was various groups related to the electric machine and the electric power, Hokuriku Economic Federation, Hokuriku Industrial Activation Centers, Ishikawa Prefecture, Toyama Prefecture, and Fukui Prefecture, etc.*2)

The Contents of GSC was as follows.

₯The first term(1991.08.20-1991.11.03: 27 places in Japan)
₯Latter term(1992.04.11-1992.08.29: 10 places in Japan)
Solar Energy International Forum 1991.09.23-1992.07.09.
(six places in Japan).
Solar Boat Race in Mikata Five Lakes
(1992.08.23: Fukui Prefecture Mikata Five Lakes)
Solar Festival in Kanazawa
(1992.08.22: Kanazawa city)
Solar Car Rally in Noto
(1992.08.30: Ishikawa Prefecture Noto peninsula)
Solar Energy International Symposium
(1992.09.05-06: Kanazawa city)

The GSC Promotion Conference dissolved in January 1993. GSC Succession Committee was established in November 1994. The GSC Succession Committee held the following events.

Grand Solar Challenge International Conference in October 1995.

Solar car rally Inn Noto '96

All the events by GSC Succession Committee were finished in 1996.
